On Long Island, more than 45,000 incidents of domestic violence are reported to law enforcement officials each year. In more than half of the cases of spousal abuse, children are also abused. Each year, an estimated two million older Americans are abused or neglected by family members.
The F·E·G·S Center for Family Violence Prevention provides services to women and children coping with abuse and enhances our community efforts to reduce the causes of domestic violence and advocates for those who need assistance.
F·E·G·S’ caring, experienced professionals provide: crisis intervention; individual, group, and family counseling; specialized assistance when alcohol is a factor in domestic violence; services to children who have been physically or sexually abused; community education; and training programs for professionals.
F·E·G·S services help victims begin the process of recovery, cope with the impact of violence on the family and other aspects of victims’ lives, and develop new and more effective diagnostic and treatment strategies.
